Jolly Music was founded in 1987 and started selling the first of the Jolly Phonics products five years later. It uses the synthetic phonics method of teaching the letter sounds in a way that is fun and multi-sensory, enabling children to become fluent readers.
Since then they have been part of the remarkable transition that has made this kind of teaching mainstream around the world.
In 2005, work began on a new venture – a series of books to enable both class and specialist teachers to teach high-quality music to their students – Jolly Music! The CEO of Jolly Learning, Chris Jolly, was encouraged to do this by his aunt Cynthia Jolly, who had lived in Hungary in the 1940s and 1950s and who knew Zoltán Kodály personally.
Cyrilla Rowsell and David Vinden were invited to write these books, and the result is Jolly Music!
There are five books – Beginners, Level 1, Level 2, Level 3 and Level 4. Each book contains 30 detailed, highly-structured and sequenced lesson plans.
There is also a Jolly Music Player and a Jolly Music online training course.

Stepping Notes - Music School for the 2s to 8s
The Stepping Notes Music School for the 2s to 8s is devised and taught by Nikhil Dally, and inspired by the philosophies and methods of Zoltan Kodály, Emile Jaques-Dalcroze and Géza Szilvay. It is the ideal way to help your children to develop a sensitive inner ear, discover and develop their singing voice, and acquire the musicianship skills necessary to start to read music and learn an instrument.
In Stepping Notes, children are invited into a stimulating environment defined by the symbolic use of colour, full of characters and exciting props, in which they become active participants through singing and natural movement.
